"Access to Leadership" Draws Record Attendance

05.24.12

On Tuesday, May 22, Lindquist & Vennum’s Women’s Initiative held its second “Access to Leadership” forum at the University of St. Thomas School of Law Shulze Grand Atrium. The event, co-presented by Minnesota Women Lawyers, drew 170 women and men from area courts, law firms, corporations and nonprofit organizations. Access to Leadership, first held in 2010, is an engaging and practical discussion on the advancement of women to positions of leadership. Through a combination of panel and small group discussion, attendees heard personal accounts of leadership; developed strategies for identifying leadership opportunities; learned how to overcome obstacles on the path to leadership; and gained inspiration for achieving effective, satisfying and sustainable leadership status. Senator Amy Klobuchar provided the welcome and opening remarks and the Honorable Diana E. Murphy provided a very personal and often poignant portrait of her rise to leadership dating back to her days as Lindquist & Vennum’s first female litigator.

Twelve women leaders from Twin City law firms and corporations led guided small group discussions including: Mavis Van Sambeek, Partner and Management Committee Member, Lindquist & Vennum; Dana Bartocci, President-Elect, Minnesota Women Lawyers; Lisa Brabbit, Assistant Dean, St. Thomas School of Law; Hon. Margaret A. Daly, Judge, Hennepin County; Michelle Grant, Partner, Dorsey and Whitney; Hon. Jill Flaskamp Halbrooks, Judge, Minnesota Court of Appeals; Megan Hertzler, Director of Information Governance, Xcel Energy; Anne Honsa, Honsa & Associates, P.A.; Shawn Judge , Founder and President, The Speaker’s Edge; Barbara Klas, Vice President of Sales, Merrill Corporation; Michelle Miller, Vice President and Senior Counsel, Medtronic, Inc.; and Tara Norgard, Carlson, Caspers, Vandenburgh & Lindquist. Group discussion topics included the current condition and future forecast for women seeking leadership opportunities, character traits of effective leaders, the role diversity and inclusion play in personal and organizational advancement, and overcoming barriers to leadership. At the close of the event, each group leader presented key themes and notable points from their group.

Search Tips:

You may use the wildcard symbol (*) as a root expander.  A search for "anti*" will find not only "anti", but also "anti-trust", "antique", etc.

Entering two terms together in a search field will behave as though an "OR" is being used.  For example, entering "Antique Motorcars" as a Client Name search will find results with either word in the Client Name.

Operators

AND and OR may be used in a search.  Note: they must be capitalized, e.g., "Project AND Finance."

The + and - sign operators may be used.  The + sign indicates that the term immediately following is required, while the - sign indicates to omit results that contain that term. E.g., "+real -estate" says results must have "real" but not "estate".

To perform an exact phrase search, surround your search phrase with quotation marks.  For example, "Project Finance".

Searches are not case sensitive.
