Karla Vehrs is a business litigator and appellate lawyer with expertise in franchises, trade relationships, real estate, construction, and contract disputes. Known for her leadership and professionalism, Karla works to resolve disputes in common-sense ways that both achieve legal goals and make good business sense. Karla knows that her clients have worked very hard to get where they are, and that her role is to find ways for them to continue doing what they do best.

Karla is one of Lindquist’s representatives to TAGLaw, an alliance of more than 140 member firms in nearly 100 countries around the globe. In addition, Karla volunteers as a pro bono lawyer for immigrants who have been the victims of crimes, human rights abuses, and trafficking.

Experience
  • Prevailed on behalf of property owner clients in complex bankruptcy adversary proceeding involving issues related to alleged post-petition transfers and violations of the automatic stay.
  • Obtained dismissal of mechanic’s lien claims of former construction project manager following trial.
  • Along with rest of Lindquist team, successfully advocated for national liquor retailer in obtaining local liquor licenses in Minnesota over vociferous objections by competitors.
  • Succeeded in obtaining dismissal of tort claims against commercial loan broker over allegations that failed loan application caused would-be borrower substantial penalties with existing lender.
  • Won a judgment of more than $1 million following federal court trial against borrowers for mortgage fraud and successfully defended result in subsequent appeal.
  • Obtained dismissal of numerous franchise-related claims on behalf of purported franchisor clients in disputes over establishment of would-be franchisees’ businesses.
  • Prevailed on behalf of telecommunications client in zoning and environmental-related appeal challenging client’s ability to construct important addition to its infrastructure.
  • Obtained ideal outcome in boundary-dispute trial on behalf of municipal client in case involving interpretation of 19th century plat and complex historical record.
  • Obtained favorable summary judgment ruling from federal district court on behalf of manufacturer plaintiff in complex commercial breach-of-warranty dispute.

You may use the wildcard symbol (*) as a root expander.  A search for "anti*" will find not only "anti", but also "anti-trust", "antique", etc.

Entering two terms together in a search field will behave as though an "OR" is being used.  For example, entering "Antique Motorcars" as a Client Name search will find results with either word in the Client Name.

Operators

AND and OR may be used in a search.  Note: they must be capitalized, e.g., "Project AND Finance." 

The + and - sign operators may be used.  The + sign indicates that the term immediately following is required, while the - sign indicates to omit results that contain that term. E.g., "+real -estate" says results must have "real" but not "estate".

To perform an exact phrase search, surround your search phrase with quotation marks.  For example, "Project Finance".
