Michael Olafson over 30 years of experience in managing complex litigation in federal and state courts. Currently, he and other firm lawyers represent Douglas Kelley, as Trustee and Receiver, in clawback litigation arising from the Thomas Petters $3.7 billion Ponzi scheme. Michael and others at the firm also successfully represented over 200 agribusiness clients, as well as several national pharmacy chains, in litigation involving a worldwide price-fixing cartel of vitamin manufacturers.

In addition to his experience in complex commercial and antitrust litigation, Michael has significant experience in securities and shareholder litigation, including investor class actions, proxy contests, take over litigation, shareholder derivative actions, and minority shareholder disputes.

Experience
  • In re Petters Company: Currently represent the bankruptcy trustee in dozens of adversary proceedings arising from the Thomas Petters Ponzi scheme.
  • Unisys Corp. v. Hynix Semiconductor, Inc., et al.: Represented a multinational computer manufacturer in the computer memory (DRAM) price-fixing multi-district litigation.
  • Agri-King, Inc. v. Akzo Nobel, Inc., et al.: Represented over 200 agribusinesses and several national pharmacy chains in multi-state litigation in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Rhode Island involving price-fixing in the vitamin industry.
  • Successfully represented a medical device manufacturer in recovering a $2 million break-up fee following a failed acquisition.
  • Obtained dismissal at the pleading stage of several class action complaints alleging securities fraud filed against a development stage pharmaceutical manufacturer.
  • Represented a national pharmacy benefit manager in litigation and arbitration proceedings.

You may use the wildcard symbol (*) as a root expander.  A search for "anti*" will find not only "anti", but also "anti-trust", "antique", etc.

Entering two terms together in a search field will behave as though an "OR" is being used.  For example, entering "Antique Motorcars" as a Client Name search will find results with either word in the Client Name.

Operators

AND and OR may be used in a search.  Note: they must be capitalized, e.g., "Project AND Finance." 

The + and - sign operators may be used.  The + sign indicates that the term immediately following is required, while the - sign indicates to omit results that contain that term. E.g., "+real -estate" says results must have "real" but not "estate".
