On Tuesday, January 22, Lindquist & Vennum Partner Peter Michaud, along with 30 LGBT attorneys from around the country, was admitted to the bar of the United States Supreme Court during an historic swearing-in ceremony performed, during session, by the Supreme Court Justices. Attorneys were selected based upon personal statements and were sponsored by the National LGBT Bar Association. This was the first time in history that the National Bar Association took part in the mass swearing-in ceremony, which occurs most days the court is in session.
The event was covered by major news media and was attended by an overflowing courtroom of guests and attendees who wanted to take part in the event (including LGBT district and appellate court judges, congressmen and congresswomen, and the Solicitor General). A reception was held after court. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was in attendance and addressed the group of attorneys and guests about historic cases.
