Law360’s Interview with David Melloh

David Melloh, chair of the Lindquist & Vennum Health Law practice group, recently discussed how he built his national reputation in health law with Law360 for their “Rainmaker Q&A” series. When asked what advice he would give to an aspiring rainmaker, he shared, “You will get rejected. See if you can determine why, but don’t worry too much about it. Approach each encounter with a potential client as an opportunity. If you don’t land the business, you’re no worse off than you were before you asked, so lick your wounds and move on to the next potential client. And, don’t forget that being turned down once does not mean that the client will never hire you. I have some clients that hired me years after our first meeting. Clients become clients in a variety of ways: referrals from former clients, marketplace contacts, former colleagues, formal pitches and ‘over-the-transom’ calls. Focusing solely on one avenue to build your practice means missed opportunities.”

Search Tips:

You may use the wildcard symbol (*) as a root expander.  A search for "anti*" will find not only "anti", but also "anti-trust", "antique", etc.

Entering two terms together in a search field will behave as though an "OR" is being used.  For example, entering "Antique Motorcars" as a Client Name search will find results with either word in the Client Name.

AND and OR may be used in a search.  Note: they must be capitalized, e.g., "Project AND Finance."

The + and - sign operators may be used.  The + sign indicates that the term immediately following is required, while the - sign indicates to omit results that contain that term. E.g., "+real -estate" says results must have "real" but not "estate".

To perform an exact phrase search, surround your search phrase with quotation marks.  For example, "Project Finance".

Searches are not case sensitive.
