Law360’s Q&A Interview with Kevin Costley

Kevin Costley, partner and co-chair of Lindquist & Vennum’s financial institutions practice group, recently shared some insight regarding how he built his career into the successful practice that he currently maintains, as published by Law360 in their Rainmaker Q&A series. When asked what advice he would give to an aspiring rainmaker, he states, “First, focus on matters that are of direct and immediate concern to potential clients then stress your experience in successfully resolving such matters for other clients. Bankers tend to be a cautious group. They want to be sure that you have dealt with their particular issue or type of transaction in the past. Therefore, I continually reassure them by saying such things as, ‘This issue came up in another deal and this is how we handled it.’ Clients want to know that you are not learning on their nickel — so be sure to always remind them of your experience.”

Search Tips:

You may use the wildcard symbol (*) as a root expander.  A search for "anti*" will find not only "anti", but also "anti-trust", "antique", etc.

Entering two terms together in a search field will behave as though an "OR" is being used.  For example, entering "Antique Motorcars" as a Client Name search will find results with either word in the Client Name.

AND and OR may be used in a search.  Note: they must be capitalized, e.g., "Project AND Finance."

The + and - sign operators may be used.  The + sign indicates that the term immediately following is required, while the - sign indicates to omit results that contain that term. E.g., "+real -estate" says results must have "real" but not "estate".

To perform an exact phrase search, surround your search phrase with quotation marks.  For example, "Project Finance".

Searches are not case sensitive.
